Why Hemp? The Benefits of Hemp Usage

What is hemp? What makes it different from Marijuana?

The phytocannabinoid ‘cannabidiol’ (CBD) was discovered in 1940 and is only one of the 113 cannabinoids that are naturally found in the cannabis plant. Hemp, while being a member of the cannabis family, is completely different than the other well-known member, marijuana. Hemp contains only trace amounts of THC, the component that causes the intoxicating effects most commonly associated with marijuana.

Endocannabinoid System 101

Simply put, your endocannabinoid system (ECS) keeps you balanced by helping you maintain homeostasis.* The ECS consists of three parts: cannabinoids, receptors, and metabolic enzymes. While each is responsible for a different task, the end goal is the same: optimal balance.*
Cannabinoids, almost like a puzzle piece, fit into the receptors of the ECS. Once combined, the receptors may help to regulate essential body functions,* but what helps the ECS to function at its peak level? Phytocannabinoids.

What are phytocannabinoids?

Phytocannabinoids are identical to endocannabinoids, but are naturally occurring within the hemp plant. Phytocannabinoids also exist naturally in a variety of places. Broccoli, echinacea, black pepper, and carrots all contain them. But what makes hemp unique is the fact it contains over 80 phytocannabinoids, far surpassing any other source.
