CBD & Hemp. What’s the difference?

By now you may have heard of CBD, one of the hottest new trends in healthcare and beyond, and there’s a good chance you have questions. Will this make me feel high? Is CBD the same as hemp? Are they both the same as marijuana? We’ve got all the insights you need to help you decide which supplements and products are right for you

What is CBD? What is hemp? What makes them different from Marijuana?

The phytocannabinoid ‘cannabidiol’ (CBD) was discovered in 1940 and is only one of the 113 cannabinoids that are naturally found in the cannabis plant. Hemp, while being a member of the cannabis family, is completely different than the other well-known member, marijuana. Hemp contains only trace amounts of THC, the component that causes the intoxicating effects most commonly associated with marijuana.

The relationship between CBD and hemp is not unlike the relationship shared between iron and spinach; while iron is a big part of spinach, it is only one of a multitude of its components. CBD is only a small part of what makes hemp a well-rounded, multi-benefit product.

When I take a hemp supplement like Uleva, am I also getting the benefits of CBD?

Yes! Not only are you taking advantage of the CBD naturally present in hemp, but you’re also absorbing other highly beneficial cannabinoids like cannabigerol (CBG).  Cannabinoids such as these can help support our endocannabinoid system, which is a network of receptors we are born with – closely tied with supporting homeostasis.*

Will hemp make me feel different than CBD?

No. Both have a similar supporting effect on the endocannabinoid system, however, hemp provides the added benefit of other natural cannabinoids working with one-another.* It’s also worth, once again, noting that hemp only contains trace amounts of THC so users of hemp supplements like Uleva do not need to worry about the feeling of being “high.”
